Consolata Hospital Mathari runs a radiology/imaging department known as Our Lady of Perpetual Help Diagnostic Centre which harbors some of the high-end imaging equipment such as 1.5 Tesla MRI and a 16 slice CT scan. It also harbors a digital x-ray and ultramodern ultrasound with echocardiography. With the aid of our CT scan and ultrasound machine, we are able to do biopsy guided procedures of the liver, lungs, lymph nodes, breast, thyroid, prostate among others. We take pride in serving the Mt. Kenya region specifically Nyeri, Isiolo, Meru, Embu, Murang’a Laikipia and Kirinyaga counties. Whilst we strive to make our radiology services cost-effective, we have partnered with key corporate insurances such as NHIF, Britam, CIC, Madison, APA, Pacis, Jubilee, AAR, EduAfya among others. The department is also in the process of installing mammogram and radiotherapy machines.

Key Radiology Procedures

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI is a type of radiology machine that uses radio waves and strong magnetic fields to generate detailed images inside the human body organs. The technique has been utilized by most doctors to diagnose problems associated with the soft tissues particularly the nerves, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. The technique can be used to scan the whole body but is widely used to scan the brain, bones, spine, joints and other organs of the human body. One of the reasons why this radiology technique is recommended by most doctors is because it does not entail the use of ionizing radiation hence does not expose the patient to any health hazards.

Computerized Tomography (CT-SCAN)

Our 16 slice CT scanner produces quality images allowing doctors to see the internal structure of the human body hence helping in the evaluation of various medical conditions. For a long time, this has been a key radiology machine that has supported various medical specialists including oncologists, surgeons, physicians, and gynecologists. One of the upper hands of our CT scanner is its ability to produce images of the blood vessels through angiography technology.

Ultramodern Ultrasound with Echocardiography

One of the radiation-free diagnostic machines is the ultrasound machine which is able to perform various examinations such as abdomen, pelvis, obstetric, neck, and cranial ultrasound. This imaging technique is ideal especially for pregnant mothers who may need routine examinations such as the abdomen and pelvic ultrasound. A major use of our ultrasound machine is in echocardiography which allows the doctor to “Read your heart” through ultrasound of the heart (ECHO).

Digital X-ray

This is one of the most basic radiology techniques that is used to generate images of the human organs and structures. Mostly, the technique is recommended by doctors to help detect or diagnose any bone fractures, breaks or lung complications. Interestingly, our X-ray machine is able to perform specialized examinations such as Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) and micturating cystourethrogram (MCU).
